Human trafficking is the fastest growing criminal industry in the world. The United Nations estimates that nearly 2.5 million people from 127 different countries are being trafficked. Victims are often tricked and lured by false promises or are physically coerced.
Unfortunately, human trafficking is also a growing phenomena in Armenia: women and girls are trafficked to countries like the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Turkey for the purpose of commercial sexual exploitation. In addition, Armenian men, women, and children have been trafficked to countries such as Turkey and Russia for the purpose of forced labor.
Please join the AGBU United Nations Special Interest Group for the screening of the documentary Desert Nights followed by an informational discussion with anti-trafficking experts.
Together, we can bring awareness and shed light on this painful and often hidden issue.
This presentation will be held on Wednesday, March 31, 2010 at the AGBU Central Office in New York, located at 55 East 59th Street beginning at 6:30 PM. Admission $10
