With our latest fundraising benefit complete, the AGBU-UN SIG shares the results of your participation!

Working in cooperation with the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), the AGBU-United Nations Special Interest Group (SIG) hosted its second benefit reception on June 11, 2009 at the Megerian Rug Gallery New York. The reception raised funds for the UNDP Armenia Vocational Education and Training (VET) Project.

More than eighty guests, including AGBU and UN dignitaries, attended the reception. The AGBU-UN Special Interest Group is proud to help sponsor this beneficial program and thanks to your support, the AGBU-UN SIG raised approximately $4,000, which will cover tuition debts of 20 high-achieving students at Gyumri State Technical College.

The committee would like to thank all those who took a part in making this fundraiser a success!

 In support of the Armenia Vocational Education and Training (VET) Project, AGBU’s UN Special Interest Group will be hosting a benefit reception on Thursday, June 11, 2009 at the Megerian Rug Gallery in New York City. Cocktails & Hors d’oeuvres will be served with entertainment by DJ Ash Krikorian. The program will feature UN dignitaries and guest speaker Dr. Ian Bremmer.

Dr. Ian Bremmer is the Founder and President of Eurasia Group, a global political risk consulting firm that has worked with government leaders and multinational corporations throughout the world. Dr. Bremmer authored Wall Street’s first global political risk index, now the GPRI (Global Political Risk Index) – a joint venture with investment bank Citigroup. His research focuses on states in transition, global political risk, and US foreign policy. Dr. Bremmer’s books include the bestselling The J Curve: A New Way to Understand Why Nations Rise and Fall and The Fat Tail: The Power of Political Knowledge for Strategic Investing. He is of Armenian and German descent.

Recently, the UN in Armenia held a reception for the introduction of a new initiative TOKTEN (Transfer of Knowledge Through Expatriate Nationals) as well as the launch of the UN “Global Armenia” website. The launch of the Global Armenia website (http://www.globalarmenia.am) provides opportunities for Diaspora Armenians to learn about and engage in UN-Armenia projects. Members of the AGBU Yerevan Office and the Central Board were on hand to recognize these initiatives.

As the committee celebrates its first year of existence, it looks to the year ahead!

AGBU is seeking a committed, civic-minded volunteer based in the greater New York Area to participate in AGBU’s UN Special Interest Group. A background in international relations, United Nations, or Armenian affairs is preferred but not required. To inquire or express interest, please send an email to agbuunsig@gmail.com.

The AGBU-UN SIG has come back from its first benefit event and is preparing to keep the momentum going!

Working in cooperation with the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), the AGBU-United Nations Special Interest Group (SIG) hosted its first benefit reception on July 24, 2008 at the UN headquarters in New York. The reception raised funds for the UNDP Youth Career Trail Project, which seeks to mitigate youth unemployment in Armenia by partnering recent college graduates with leading host organizations through a six-month paid internship program.

More than one hundred guests, including AGBU and UN dignitaries, attended the reception. The AGBU-UN Special Interest Group is proud to help sponsor the third class of interns and thanks to your support, the AGBU-UN SIG raised $6,000, which will cover the internship stipends for ten upcoming Youth Career Trail Project participants.

The committee is proud to have held its first benefit event and would like to thank all those who attended, made a donation and/or provided support in making this event a success!

• A Photo ID will be required in order to gain admission to the United Nations for this event.
• Upon your arrival Thursday evening, please utilize the Visitor’s Entrance located at 46th Street and First Avenue between 7 and 8:30 PM.
